Degsie’s dose II : The second coming

Hi Everyone, first of all, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who commented on the first column, I had such kind and positive feedback on it, which surprised me because it was all about me!

I hope you learned something about me that you didn’t already know. I’m sure there will be some more fascinating facts cropping up in this and other columns (You know how I like to gossip about myself!).

Anyhow, I won’t bore you too much, but I’d like to start my second column by saying a huge thank you to everyone who voted in this year’s Owlies – Leeds LGBT Awards. I had a fantastic night and was so honoured to be entered into the Hall Of Fame (For my 87 year’s service on the Leeds Gay Scene).

The night was a massive success mainly due to the fabulous hosts Kira Live and the infamous Marky Mark who did an excellent job keeping things running smoothly all night. Well done to everyone who was nominated and who won awards this year and to all the team that worked to make the night amazing.

Right folks, for those of you that don’t know, or who haven’t been, I have my own weekly event down at The Bridge Inn each and every Sunday Afternoon. Between the hours of 2 pm till 8 pm it’s DJ Degsie’s Sunday Roast / The Worldwide Tour. This event has gone from strength to strength since I started it 15 weeks ago, so I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s come along and supported it, and if you haven’t been yet then this is what you can expect.

Every Sunday Afternoon I host a bit of a party where we all play games, do quizzes, bingo, and basically have a fab time. I also give loads and loads of FREE beer and prizes away throughout the afternoon and everyone gets a FREE Sunday Roast with all the trimmings, or if we’re on a Worldwide Tour, we stop off at a different country various weeks and base the FREE DINNER from that countries cuisine. There’s something different each week just to keep it fresh and exciting so it would be great to see some new faces, everyone’s welcome, just don’t eat before you come because our cook does enough food to feed a small country (This event is advertised on Facebook weekly) so check it out and let’s party!

It’s followed by either Judy & Leroy or Kira & Charlie’s Karaoke night which are amazing nights in themselves, so the more we drink in the afternoon the better we sound on the night!

This Sunday 13th March the Worldwide Tour will be stopping off in Ireland to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Along with all the fun and games, we will have music from the emerald isle, FREE mini Guinness’s, Happy Hour all afternoon with offers on Guinness. Plus your FREE MEAL will be Beef Casserole cooked in Guinness with Irish Potatoes and Dumplings.

Last month at The Bridge Inn we held our Valentine Fund Raiser to raise money for The Yorkshire Air Ambulance & Leeds Pride 2013 Charities. We had an array our fabulous Vocalists, Drag Acts, & Comedians performing for everyone and it was an amazing weekend. So again a massive thank you for your support and all your donations, and I’m so pleased to tell you we managed to raise £685 which will be split between the two charities.

Coming Up on Sunday 21st April we will be holding another fundraiser at The Bridge Inn, this time it’s to raise more funds for Leeds LGBT Pride 2013 and will just be a single day’s event. It will be an American theme with Live Vocalists and drag on stage, Lots of Fun and Games, Quizzes, Bingo, Raffles and everyone will be able to help themselves to our FREE American Buffet. It will all be hosted by myself, I guarantee it will be a day not to miss folks so make sure you write it in your diaries.

The Viaduct Showbar will be kicking their first Courtyard Party off on Sunday 31st March and all the action starts from 1 pm. The theme for the first party is Egyptian Queens and Gods, so dress to impress folks, or just come and bow in front of those who do! I’ll be there at some point in the evening probably worshipping a bottle of Brandy, so that will be a night, no doubt full of surprises.

And don’t forget The Viaduct Showbar will also be hosting their LGBT SPORTS DAY on Sunday 14th April which is going to be amazing! The Gay Games will include A Drag Race, Egg & Spoon Race, Sack Race, and a Tug Of War which will involve all the staff & customers from different venues competing against each other to raise money for Leeds LGBT Pride 2013.

So I think I’ve covered what’s going on in the two venues I work in, don’t forget you can also catch me on Friday Night at The Viaduct Showbar, Saturday Night at The Bridge Inn and Monday Night with Timmy J Wright at The Viaduct Showbar.

Like most of the fundraisers coming up, it’s mainly to raise money for this year’s Leeds LGBT Pride, so I’m really hoping that all the venues and staff can manage to work together on this one, because at the end of the day it’s for the same charity and it benefits all of us.

I know this column has been mainly advertising, but there’s so much coming up and each event should be fantastic if we all get together and have a good time, so let’s show everyone that the #gayleeds is the best place to be!

Right then, folks, I think that’s it for me this month because basically, I’m sick of listening to myself. I’ll leave you with my monthly fact about myself which will make you piss your pants…

Up until I left school in 1986 (Yes I’m that old) – I had to buy my Trousers from kids departments because I was too thin to fit in Adult sizes (and no, that’s not the Brandy talking, it’s true)!

Until next month folks…

Keep safe & Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do

Hugs & Kisses

DJ Degsie
