The ‘Pockets Theatre’ is premiering their new 1-hour long theatre piece at ‘Victoria Gate‘ over the Leeds LGBT Pride 2017 weekend marking 60 years of the ‘Wolfenden Report’.
This report called for the decriminalisation of homosexuality, the first legal step toward LGBT equality in Britain.
Set in a fictionalised pub, drawing from the history of venues like ‘The New Penny‘ in #gayleeds, ‘If the girls start moving, the boys will join in’ will share untold lived and everyday stories of the LGBT community in Leeds from the past 60 years.
‘If the girls start moving, the boys will join in’ will celebrate the achievements of the LGBT rights movement, explore the rich and sometimes messy diversity of this history, and open up questions about our shared identities and responsibilities. ‘If the girls start moving, the boys will join in’ will breathe fresh life into the testimonies of local communities who lived, celebrated, protested, mourned and ultimately survived.
£10 ticket price but discounts offered to local LGBT community groups.
