World AIDS Day takes place on the 1st December each year.
It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day. Here are just a few of the events going on in #gayleeds in and around World Aids Day 2017…

Aire Place Studios: HIVideo Leeds
HIVideo is a global exhibition of art films taking place simultaneously on World AIDS Day across 3 continents.
HIVideo is the moving image strand of Balaclava.Q. In a first of its kind experiment, on 1st December 2016, Balaclava.Q screened 6 video artworks that looked at HIV/AIDS — on both aesthetic and political levels. Each venue facilitators managed the event, sourced a venue, and generated a small audience. As a first-of-its-kind experiment, the 2016 event acted as a test for strengthening connections between queer artists and audiences — on a global stage.
HIVideo seeks to promote contemporary dialogue(s) on World AIDS Day via video art from both a local and global perspective. HIVideo complements current discourse and the de-stigmatization / -criminalization movement by creating a dialogue about HIV/AIDS via art — and the attendant aesthetics and politics.
