Another poor move, Mrs May…
Theresa May has made another misstep in assuring the LGBT community that she will defend their rights by appointing John Glen MP – an MP with links to the gay cure charity CARE – to the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport.
Glen is a long time supporter of the Christian Action Research and Education (CARE), and has previously claimed that he won’t “be bullied” into cutting ties with the group.
Glen – who is the Tory MP for Salisbury – also voted against both readings of the same-sex marriage bill, and criticized the Bishop of Salisbury for supporting pro-equality legislation.
Meanwhile, Arlene Foster, leader of the DUP, has rejected claims that her party is homophobic.
During her time as finance minister, Foster said the country should “leave things as they are” and argued: “Just because you keep saying it is an equality issue doesn’t make it an equality issue.”
She recently justified her position once again by claiming that she knows “plenty” of gay people who don’t want to get married, claiming it’s all become “a storm in a teacup”.
