The New Penny (Leeds)

The New Penny is the oldest gay bar in Leeds and it is said that it’s where Lily Savage performed whilst on the road to stardom.

Opened in 1953 the bar is now owned by Steve Parkin and managed by Jeff Armitage and attracts a massive range of people young, old and in between.

Be prepared to dance to classic songs and request your own from the DJ (at your own risk). The atmosphere is chilled out, off the wall, and be prepared to come out with a lot more friends than you went in with!

The New Penny is mainly a late venue, it has a Leeds Civic Trust blue plaque which identifies it as the longest consecutively running LGBT Bar in the UK. What are you waiting for? Let’s grab a bottle of Penny Wine and celebrate!

57/59 Call Lane, Leeds.
