A gay romantic getaway is the focus of Icelandair’s new campaign (Travel)


The geysers have never looked so appealing…

Icelandair have used a gay couple as the focus of their new tourism advertising campaign, which will have you planning your next trip in no time.

Why? Because the gay couple look like they’re having the most romantic getaway.

Fantastic scenery, the Northern Lights, horseback riding, and a steamy spring or two – it looks idyllic.

“Icelandair’s customers are as diverse as they are many,” said the airline’s brand manager Jón Skafti Kristjánsson. “We think it’s only natural to reflect that in our marketing material.”

“This ad portrays a cultural trip to Iceland and the group it’s aimed at is people who travel to enjoy what life has to offer with their loved ones.”

So it was an obvious choice to use a loving middle-aged couple for such an ad; it’s worked well for us in the past. But this time we thought: why not add to the diversity and make this loving, middle-aged couple a same-sex couple?

The new advert is part of a wider campaign that will focus on a diverse range of travellers.
