Leeds City Varieties (Leeds)

Believe it or not, Leeds City Varieties is actually older than its sister, Leeds Grand Theatre. Built in 1865, it’s played host to everything from cabaret to comedy over the years – and is one of the only remaining Victorian music halls left in the UK.

Over the years, the Leeds theatre has laid out the red carpet for some of the industry’s biggest acts, including Charlie Chaplin, Harry Houdini and Buster Keaton, while helping others, like Ken Dodd and Frankie Vaughan to cement their place in the history books.

Times have changed, but Leeds City Varieties still looks every bit like the grand Victorian music hall it started out as – and a £9.9 million refurbishment has helped to ensure that it’s in tip-top condition.

But it’s not just the venues appearance that has stayed the same, as Leeds City Varieties still maintains the same values from those early days, inviting in a huge array of acts. An average week will see musicians, comedians, magicians and dance acts take to the stage to entertain the masses.
